Cheyenne
The trailer backed up to the stall fence that had been prepared for her as she was adopted from the Bureau of Land Management just like Braveheart but this time we were prepared and made it an even smaller area so she wouldn't get up the speed. The trailer door slowly opened and we all backed away. But to our surprise, there was no thundering horse running out of the trailer, instead, a quiet, slow, sure-stepping horse made her way down the step into her stall. She put her nose to the ground and stood still. When we came near she did not move, in fact she did not care about anything we did.

Braveheart
Braveheart was our first horse we adopted from the Bureau of Land Management. We had carefully prepared his stall as recommended by the BLM and anxiously awaited his arrival. The trailer arrived and a rugged man got out of the truck looking like he had something important to say, “Ma am, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is he loaded kinda rough and when he ran into the trailer well... He just kept on running and smacked his head clean open on the front of the trailer. The good news is the pine tar we applied while he was unconscious is holding it all together so far.” Then the trailer door opened and here came something so fast running out of the trailer, I didn’t even see what it was. Of course he had a reputation to live up to and ran clear to the other end of the stall and smacked his head on the other end. It might of been all the pain he was in, but he let us come right up to him. So we named him Braveheart.

“Though not fully a substitute for loving parents, a pet can provide some of the opportunities for overtly giving and receiving affection which a child needs for adequate growth and personality development” (Levinson, 1978, p. 1035).
